Sir John Franklin

Born in Spilsby, a village in Lincolnshire, in 1786, Sir John Franklin joined The Royal Navy when he was only fourteen.

In 1845 he commanded an Arctic voyage known as the Franklin Expedition as captain of HMS Erebus in hopes of finding and charting the Northwest Passage to quicken and thus increase trade with Asia. His ships and all 129 men vanished, never to be heard from again.

It is recorded in the Victory Point note that Sir John died on 11 June 1847. While remains of Sir John's men have been found, his own have still not been located. The cause of his death is still unknown.

Sir John appears in Homeward.
